JUNBA 2008
The 2nd JUNBA Summit, Symposium and Technology Fair
Invitation to JUNBA 2008
JUNBA (Japanese University Network in the Bay Area) is proud to announce "JUNBA 2008 -A Promotion of Industry-Academia-Government (IAG) Collaborations toward the Year 2025". This is the second event held by JUNBA and comprises of three parts; Summit, Symposium and Technology Fair in the field of IAG collaborations.
The first part, "The JUNBA Summit" will be to discuss the strategy of international IAG collaborations by the participating university representatives who are directly involved in this subject. It is our belief that intellectual properties (IP) are made not only of patents, but also of university-wide capabilities and assets, including accumulated knowledge, organizations and facilities, high quality personnel to produce knowledge, abundant networks, world-renowned research models and methodologies, unique tradition of schools, and so on. In this Summit meeting, participants are requested to stand on this broad definition of IP and, looking toward the year 2025, discuss (1) how to manage the IP to efficiently conduct the IAG collaborations, (2) how to relate IAG collaborations to the education and research functions which are the basic rules of universities and (3) what are the actual experiences of creating start-up companies and future prospects. This meeting is not open to the public and is by invitation only.
The second part is "The JUNBA Symposium", in which a series of lectures on IAG collaborations is presented by opinion-leaders from Japan and the US. They include a representative from the Council for Science & Technology Policy, Cabinet of Japan, followed by contributors such as representatives from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and experts of IAG Collaborations among US universities and industries.
The purpose of the third part, "The JUNBA Technology Fair", is to have 15 participating universities open up their technologies with IAG Collaborations in mind. During the presentation, booths will be set up outside the meeting room to facilitate a follow-up discussion for those who are interested.
