JUNBA 2009
- Next Step to a Greener Earth -
JUNBA (Japanese University Network in the Bay Area) held "JUNBA2009 - Next Step to a Greener Earth-" on January 12 and 13, 2009. This comprised of three parts; Summit, Symposium and Technology Fair in the field of global environmental issues.
The first part, "The JUNBA Summit" was to discuss the strategy of the role of universities and the action plan to provide timely solutions to sustainability problems by the participating representatives who were directly involved in this subject.
The second part was "The JUNBA Symposium", in which a series of lectures on environmental researches was presented by opinion-leaders from Japan and the U. S.. They included a representative from Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and experts of environmental research among US universities and industries.
The purpose of the third part, "The JUNBA Technology Fair", was to have 30 participating universities open up their technologies. During the presentation, booths were set up in another room to facilitate a follow-up discussion for those who were interested.

Time: From 1:00 PM to 6:15 PMIn the technology fair section, a total 25 of presentations were made in two breakout sessions which focused on energy and environmental issues. Also, 20 Japanese and American universities exhibited their cutting-edge technologies and products to Silicon Valley companies through the use of samples and posters at exhibition booths.
